Fishpork’s 10 Favorite Films of 2014

It was an incredible year in film, for both mainstream and independent releases. Two films in particular (Under the Skin and Enemy) immediately assume spots on my all-time great list. Here is a very biased list of our favorite films of 2014.

1. Under the Skin

2. Enemy

3. Boyhood

“Richard Linklater’s Boyhood is a miracle on screen and deserves all of its near-unanimous critical acclaim.”

4. Whiplash

5. Blue Ruin

6. Before I Disappear

“This is a dark character study that is not completely reliant on plot points, a welcomed relief from mundane Hollywood cliches and stereotypes.”

7. Wild

8. Nightcrawler

“Gyllenhaal as the king of the dark character study … he is deserving of a few trophies come awards season with his performance as despicable anti-hero Lou Bloom in Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler.”\

9. Gone Girl

10. Foxcatcher

Foxcatcher is the work of a director operating on a much higher level than most within Hollywood.”

Honorable Mention:

  • Birdman

  • Guardians of the Galaxy

  • Interstellar

Most Disappointing:

  • Two Days, One Night

  • Are You Here
