EP Review: White Math/Polymorph

Fuck Button’s Tarot Sport was #4 on our Favorite Albums of 2009 list, in a particularly strong year for music (Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, etc.). One half of Fuck Buttons is Benjamin Power’s Blanck Mass solo project. While his initial release didn’t approach the heights of his collaboration with Andrew Hung, Power’s new two-track White Math/Polymorph EP comprises the slow build-up to crescendo that the strongest tracks in the Fuck Buttons catalog feature.

“Polymorph” sounds like it would even fit nicely within the track list for Tarot Sport. There are only two tracks on the EP, but they are epic in length and composition. Both clock in at well over 10 minutes. If your a fan of any incarnation of the band, grab it immediately. It’s one of the best EPs released so far this year, with two of my favorite tracks of 2012.

Worcester-native Blanck Mass (and Fuck Buttons) was recently featured during the opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Check out “Sundowner” by Blanck Mass with the London Symphony Orchestra below:
