Girls Against Boys @ Johnny Brenda’s

Girls Against Boys have reunited with a new EP and tour for 2013. Last night the DC/NYC based post-hardcore foursome stormed into Philadelphia with hardcore-punk veterans Coliseum and special guest David Yow (The Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid). Coliseum’s set was an epic balance of precision and ferocity. And frontman Ryan Patterson expressed sincere humility and respect for his headliners through a pretty incredible thank you speech to the band.

Eli Janney and company took the stage at about 10:30 and immediately ripped into several of their hits in front of a larger crowd that had found its way to the second story at Philly’s best music venue. The band also played “It’s a Diamond Life” from their new The Ghost List EP, which is due in September. Fans were treated to a special appearance by the absolutely insane David Yow, who joined the band for several songs during their set, including fan-favorite “Kill the Sexplayer” during a much-deserved encore (see below). The performance was no doubt one of the best we’ve seen so far in 2013.
