Trent Reznor took to Twitter today to inform fans on the update to David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo website, which most likely features a track from Trent’s new collaborative score with Atticus Ross. As with last year’s Academy Award-winning soundtrack for The Social Network, the experience of listening to the tracks will work best in the context of watching the film. In the meantime, you can check out the droning composition at www.dragontattoo.com.

Girl Talk Releases New Album For Free
November 15, 2010 by Mark

It’s been two full years since we interviewed Girl Talk following the release of his last record, Feed The Animals. Today, Greg Gillis surprised fans with the free download release of his new and highly anticipated follow-up, All Day. Gillis tours around 300 dates per year, so offering the new album as a free download is probably not hurting the pockets of his newfound success.
I haven’t yet located the Beyonce/Led Zeppelin mash-up he was working on during our call, but there’s already a Wikipedia page up documenting all the sampled artists. You can download Girl Talk’s All Day here at his Illegal Art’s label page. The page is running VERY slow today since he’s currently number one on Google Trends. The early highlights include the Phoenix/Ludacris mix on “Triple Double,” the Radiohead/Isley Brothers/Birdman mix on “Make Me Wanna,” and the Lady Gaga/Aphex Twin/Soulja Boy mix on “Get It Get It.”

MP3: “Lucky 1″ by Avery Tare

We finally get our first listen to Avery Tare’s (aka Dave Portner of Animal Collective) first completely solo effort, Down There. For those of you who are familiar with his lone solo track, “I’m Your Eagle Kisser,” from a 2008 indie compilation called Living Bridge, high expectations are in order. Listening to “Lucky 1″ out of context may be unfair, but it’s an early indication that Down There may surpass Panda Bear’s TomBoy as the most anticipated release of 2010 (at least in our eyes). You can download “Lucky 1″ here or stream it below (via GvsB):

Belgian director Charles De Meyer (aka Chuck Eklectric) first met Amon Tobin in 2007. It was then De Meyer proposed his idea to create a short film for the song “Esther’s” featured on Tobin’s then just released Foley Room record. Tobin was impressed and collaborated with De Meyer to work on the sound design. Three years later, the result is a must see:

Trent Reznor Lets You Sample His Score of “The Social Network”

As he has done with past projects in recent years, Trent Reznor is giving away more of his music. This time it’s a five-track sampler of the score he and Atticus Ross did for the upcoming David Fincher film about the origins of Facebook, The Social Network. Reznor, who many believe has revolutionized the way music is distributed on the Internet, will offer an array of packaged formats for the soundtrack, including CD, HD Blu-Ray Audio, and Vinyl. The soundtrack hits on September 28. You can download the five free tracks and pre-order the album on his Null Corporation label’s web site here. Reznor says he and Atticus have been working on the project for months. This news just might be the nail in the coffin for Reznor’s involvement in an HBO series based on his Year Zero alternate reality experience and concept album. Reznor posted a comment about the sound of the soundtrack on his web page:
Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory – electronic in basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional tone for the various scenes.
You can download one of the tracks “On We March” here or stream it below:
The film hits theaters on October 1. Trailer is below (and features an affecting cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”) :
Girl Talk To Release NYE Chicago Documentary
September 15, 2010 by Mark
In the first few days of 2010, Girl Talk threw a mind-blowing, over-the-top New Year’s Eve extravaganza, one of the largest house parties the world has seen to celebrate the end of the decade. With so much time and effort put into making this such an extraordinary night, Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) and his crew decided not just those in attendance, but all Girl Talk fans, should have a chance to see the insanity. The planning and show was documented on multiple HD cameras, and has now been made into a short film that’s almost ready to be shared. You can get a sneak peek of “Girl Talk NYE Chicago” by checking out the trailer below.
To give you an idea, here’s what went down: As a surprise to the 4,500-capacity Congress Theatre audience in Chicago, Girl Talk had a two-story, five room house built on stage. This house took months to plan, and 4+ full days and 21+ crew members to build. Girl Talk and the set designers seriously took things to the next level when it came to the detail that went into each aspect of the house. Plus, outside the house, there were even fake trees lining the yard, and a rock was placed in front of the house covering the table Girl Talk works on. The lights constructed on the outside and inside of the house, including an LCD curtain surrounding the house to make it look like the night sky, and all over the venue, were equally elaborate.
When the house was first presented to the audience, only a few lamps inside each room were turned on, however, as the night neared midnight, the house counted down from 9 to 0, and then once midnight hit, the house came alive as lights all over the house, inside and out, shown bright. The kitchen floor eventually lit up turning into a disco-dance floor, the entire bathroom could strobe any color, the computer in the kid’s room had an LED light attached to it, and intense lights came from the fireplace. There were also special lights strategically hidden all over the venue that were active and radiant throughout the night. Check out stills from the film below.

Girl Talk has been on the road nonstop since Feed The Animals was released in June 2008. After playing over 240 shows and rarely taking more than five days off at a time, Gregg has finally taken a break for most of the summer to work on his next album, which will be unleashed upon the world in early 2011. Stay tuned for more details!

Sigur Ros recently announced they would be going on hiatus to work on solo projects. Lead singer Jonsi offers his second side project (following last year’s Jonsi and Alex album) with the release of Go. His first solo offering resembles Sigur Ros, but Jonsi explores more positive themes and upbeat compositions on Go. The album was released on March 22. If you haven’t bought it yet, NPR is streaming the 40+ minute record in its entirety (here). Jonsi just wrapped up weeks of preparation for his tour, which will include two NYC stops. We’ll see you there!
