Trent Reznor took to Twitter today to inform fans on the update to David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo website, which most likely features a track from Trent’s new collaborative score with Atticus Ross. As with last year’s Academy Award-winning soundtrack for The Social Network, the experience of listening to the tracks will work best in the context of watching the film. In the meantime, you can check out the droning composition at www.dragontattoo.com.

Watch Fincher’s TGWTDT Trailer Featuring Trent Reznor and Karen O’s Led Zeppelin Cover
Fresh off his Academy Award win for Fincher’s The Social Network, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score the director’s next project, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, due in theaters on Christmas 2011. I’m not sure any collaboration is more anticipated this year, especially after the results of their last project. Exhibit A is the new red band trailer released in Europe this week. It features a cover song of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” by Trent Reznor with Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) on vocals. Watch a bootleg version below:
UPDATED: the high quality green band trailer was finally released this week:
MP3: “Freak Out” by Tapes N Tapes
Fishpork faves Tapes N Tapes have a new record Outside coming out on January 11. The band will follow up the release with a three-month U.S. tour that will stop in Brooklyn and Johnny Brenda’s in Philly. In the meantime, their first single “Freak Out” is available as a free download. You can download “Freak Out” by Tapes N Tapes here or stream it below:
You can aslo check out a performance of another new song called “SWM” from earlier this year for Radio Happy Hour in their hometown of Minneapolis:
MP3: “Not In Love (ft. Robert Smith)” by Crystal Castles
Everyone in the blogosphere is buzzing about a new collaboration between Crystal Castles and The Cure’s Robert Smith. As good as the track sounds in theory, it’s even better realized. Crystal Castles will release the single next month, December 6th, with B-sides containing acoustic demos of ‘Celestica’ and ‘Suffocation.’ You can download “Not In Love (ft. Robert Smith)” by Crystal Castles here or stream it below:
MP3: “Discipline Your Hands” by Dearling Physique
A hybrid of mysterious, sensual rhythms; a soundtrack for the dark untraveled corners hidden beneath the gentle reflections of a pulsating metropolis… such is the musical landscape of Minneapolis band, Dearling Physique. Avant-garde but accessible, dark yet uplifting, Dearling Physique is a band that manipulates genres, effortlessly gliding between ambient sounds and electronica, from alternative pop to soul, while defying preconceived notions of conventional music. Led by enigmatic frontman, Domino Davis, the band has built an alluring reputation for captivating and challenging audiences. It’s this flair for visual and musical complexities. [via Fanatic PR]
Dearling Physique’s Deadeye Dealer hits online retailers in January. In the meantime, you can download their first single, “Discipline Your Hands,” here or stream it below:
MP3: “Sayulita” by Apparat
Finally taking a break from his work with Moderat (Apparat + Modeselektor), Sascha Ring (aka Apparat) offers up a track named after the Mexican town where he recorded new material. “Sayulita” is his exclusive contribution to his DJ-KiCKS mix. Harnessing the shaky, organic percussion, big hoover like bass sounds and the erratic guitar chops that cut through the rising pads it blends somewhat brilliantly with Joy Orbison’s “The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow” on the mix but also manages to stand up to repeated listens on its own; fully blossoming into a somewhat angular exercise in where Ring is at right now sonically – complete with curved reverb tails across the snare drums while the low end chomps at the bit behind it. The album drops on October 25 on iTunes. You can download “Sayulita” by Apparat here or stream it below:
MP3: “Lucky 1″ by Avery Tare
We finally get our first listen to Avery Tare’s (aka Dave Portner of Animal Collective) first completely solo effort, Down There. For those of you who are familiar with his lone solo track, “I’m Your Eagle Kisser,” from a 2008 indie compilation called Living Bridge, high expectations are in order. Listening to “Lucky 1″ out of context may be unfair, but it’s an early indication that Down There may surpass Panda Bear’s TomBoy as the most anticipated release of 2010 (at least in our eyes). You can download “Lucky 1″ here or stream it below (via GvsB):
Trent Reznor Lets You Sample His Score of “The Social Network”
As he has done with past projects in recent years, Trent Reznor is giving away more of his music. This time it’s a five-track sampler of the score he and Atticus Ross did for the upcoming David Fincher film about the origins of Facebook, The Social Network. Reznor, who many believe has revolutionized the way music is distributed on the Internet, will offer an array of packaged formats for the soundtrack, including CD, HD Blu-Ray Audio, and Vinyl. The soundtrack hits on September 28. You can download the five free tracks and pre-order the album on his Null Corporation label’s web site here. Reznor says he and Atticus have been working on the project for months. This news just might be the nail in the coffin for Reznor’s involvement in an HBO series based on his Year Zero alternate reality experience and concept album. Reznor posted a comment about the sound of the soundtrack on his web page:
Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory – electronic in basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional tone for the various scenes.
You can download one of the tracks “On We March” here or stream it below:
The film hits theaters on October 1. Trailer is below (and features an affecting cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”) :

Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, Mira Aroyo To Start Supergroup
Trent Reznor’s been talking about doing a project featuring a female vocalist for years. And he’s made no secret about his love for Ladytron, inviting them to open for his 2007 European tour. Reznor announced this morning via his Twitter account that Mira Aroyo will sing on the majority of his next release. In bigger news, the release will not be a Nine Inch Nails record, and Billy Corgan has already co-written several tracks with Reznor. Reznor, who is seen throwing baseballs at a target of Billy Corgan’s head in his 2000 video for “Starfuckers” says the feud has long been over. “I’ve apologized to Billy about some of the harsh things I’ve said over the years. I’m sober these days. Those were jealous, angry demons. You don’t need me to tell you that Billy Corgan is one of the most talented artists of the last 20 years.”
Corgan, who recently co-wrote a new song for Jessica Simpson, says he has similar goals via a recent interview with Paste magazine. “I’m sure people can agree that I’ve never had the greatest voice to listen to,” Corgan says. “This project gives me an opportunity to work with two people I’ve admired for quite some time. Mira’s voice can bring world peace. ” The trio are calling themselves SLANT (yes, it’s in italics) and plan to release a record sometime in the Fall. A teaser for the first single was posted to NIN.com last night at midnight here.
